“Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to catch fish, and you feed him for a lifetime” goes the famous saying. It wasn’t too much of a struggle for Team Cigniti to choose Education as the prime charter as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative run under its flagship program “Cignificance”.

I heard about Khan Academy for the first time about 14 months ago, when Team Cigniti contemplated about initiating the drive to translate Khan Academy video into Telugu. It was an awe inspiring moment for me, when I read about Salman Khan (not the movie actor), and leant how he has singlehandedly created a moment that is poised to billions of lives across the world, forever.
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” said Nelson Mandela. Modern day leadership belief is not just about Charity, but is about the ability to create jobs and self-sustaining world out there. This can happen only through EDUCATION.
There are over 6 millions students in the state of Andhra Pradesh, who attends Telugu Medium schools where infrastructure is quite minimal. So, Cigniti took the initiative to eliminate the knowledge gap caused due to lack of infrastructure and teaching aids. Cigniti has pledged last year to impact over 1 million lives by providing free access to world-class learning.
Today, Cignitians have translated more than 150 videos in Mathematics, and Sciences into Telugu and are helping students across AP take advantage of the world class content available online. These videos with Telugu voiceovers will equip students with world-class learning
I had thought about providing voice over to some of the videos, but never got to do it. Few weeks ago, I bumped into blessed souls from Cigniti who were recording voiceover for Khan Academy videos, in one of our conference rooms. I instantly got an idea to make a video that provides “behind the scenes” glimpse into mega initiative undertaken by Team Cigniti
Project Cignificance achieved a global milestone just 24 hour ago, with URL https://te.khanacademy.org/ going LIVE. Now Telugu happens to be the first Indian language to have a dedicated page on the Khan Academy site.
Watch the below video, and be sure to give our volunteers a pat on their back, or congratulate them on their FB wall
I liked the Sal Khan’s last statement after the montage of clips from Khan Academy videos.. “…If this does not blow your mind, you have no emotion” 🙂
Thanks to the internet, you need not even go out of your home, to impact billions of lives out there. What are you waiting for ?
